Bruges - The Venice of the North

Day 1

An early morning departure before we head south for our lunchtime crossing. We arrive in Bruges mid-afternoon. With picturesque canals and intricate gabled houses it is no wonder Bruges is often referred to as the ’Venice of the North’. It is one of the most beautiful and best preserved medieval cities in Europe. Our hotel is situated a few steps from the Grote Markt (Main Square) - a perfect location!

Day 2

This morning, after breakfast, the day is free to take a carriage ride around the town, climb to the top of the Belfry or maybe a canal cruise with ample time to sample the mouth-watering Belgian chocolate. We also include a guided walking tour of all the major sights with a local guide.

Late afternoon, join us as we make our way to neighbouring Ypres. Completely flattened during WW1. Having been completely rebuilt we witness the emotional 8pm ceremony beneath the Menin Gate, a poignant tribute to the courage and self-sacrifice of those who fell in defence of Ypres.

Day 3

After breakfast, join us as we cross the boarder into the Netherlands to visit the charming town of Sluis, described as the most Flemish town in the Netherlands. Once an important port in medieval times, it now boasts a delightful centre in a canal side setting with a wealth of shops, restaurants, bars with cosy terraces, all set in beautiful architecture. We return to Bruges mid afternoon to enjoy the remainder of the day.

Day 4

A leisurely start to the day, before we bid farewell to Bruges and return our steps for our early afternoon crossing back to the UK.
