Ireland's Hidden Gem - West Cork

Ireland's Hidden Gem - West Cork

A fabulous 7 Day Holiday visiting Ireland's best kept secret. Ireland at its rare, raw and most beautiful.

Ireland's Hidden Gem - West Cork

With its wild and rugged terrain and enchanting coastline, Beara, along the Wild Atlantic Way, is arguably the most beautiful landscape in all of Ireland.

It is undoubtedly the wildest of Ireland’s peninsulas, with its rugged mountains and a spectacular coastline that stretches 30 long miles from Glengarriff down to Dursey Island at the Southwestern corner of Ireland and around and back up again to Kenmare in South Kerry. In keeping with its untamed spirit, it is commonly called "Wesht" Cork to distinguish itself from its more sedate "West" Cork neighbors.

We depart early morning and travel to Pembroke for our afternoon sailing to Rosslare. On arrival in Ireland, we travel the short distance to the Talbot Hotel in County Wexford.

Today, we make our way to the delightful Youghal - one half a medieval walled town and the other a Victorian Beach Resort. We continue to Kinsale - here the inquest was held in 1915 into the sinking of the Luistania. With its character houses and maze of streets it is an ideal spot for lunch.

We continue onto the Maritime Hotel in Bantry, which lies at the head of Bantry Bay on the Coast of West Cork. Here we spend the next 4 nights amongst this spectacular landscape.

Today, we discover the rugged and spectacular Beara Peninsula. We board our boat to Garinish Island, accompanied by seals, posing for photographs without a care in the World. We visit the Italian Garden before taking the Healy Pass with its breathtaking views - a photographers paradise. We complete our day in Castletownbere - a bustling fishing town where land and sea collide and untamed beauty abounds.

We begin our day with a visit to Kenmare - The jewel in the Ring of Kerry, one of the most idyllic places in Ireland. We continue to Molly Gallivan's a 200 year old Cottage and Farm. Experience the simple lifestyle in Ireland before the days of electricity and modern conveniences. We complete with the scenic beauty of the Caha Pass - spectacular views of the sea and mountains - Ireland at its best!

This morning, we visit Bantry House and its stunnning formal gardens, a family home for the past 300 years. The remainder of the day we spend exploring the stunning resort of Bantry, with its semi-tropical flowers, palm trees, high mountain ridges and cascading mountain streams leading to an azure blue sea.

We bid farewell to Bantry and make our way to Midleton to the Jameson Distillery for a tour and tasting of the world's best Irish Whiskey. Every drop of Jameson's is produced here. We continue to Wexford, arriving mid-aftertoon. Time to enjoy this waterfront location.

This morning after breakfast, we bid farewell and head the short distance to Rosslare and our early morning crossing home.
