The centrepiece of the Pickering events calendar is the ever-popular Wartime Weekend, which is held every October, and includes a full programme of WWII and 1940s themed entertainment and events. Hosted by the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, prepare for a weekend of singing, dancing, workshops, parades and fashion shows, in addition to living history showcases, period vehicle exhibitions and re-enactments. Whether you want to dress up in period costume and get involved, or just do some sightseeing, its an excellent festival and fantastic fun.

Day 1
We depart local pick up points and head to the medieval City of York. A late morning arrrival, allows us to enjoy the day and to explore this compact walled City. The list of museum is endless, plus its fabulous Minster, a wealth of independent shops, cafes and restaurants.
We check in to the centrally located Park Inn Radisson Hotel situated on the banks of the river Ouse late afternoon. Time now to freshen up before Dinner in the hotel restaurant.
Day 2
The beauty of a centrally located hotel is you can simply please yourself. Will it be the Railway Museum, the Jorvik Viking Centre, The Shambles, a Cruise on the Ouse....so much choice! Alternatively join us as we head to Pickering for an engaging day witnessing parades of 1940s military and civilian vehicles, plus British soldiers, American G.I.s, Live Music, dancing in the streets, marching bands, fashion shows. Why not get into the spirit of things and dress up too!
This evening we enjoy dinner in the hotel and the opportunity to sample the bars, atmosphere and nightlife in York.
Day 3
Another hearty and leisurely breakfast, before we once again head to Pickering to become part of a huge film set depicting the 2nd WW. Tanks, armoured cars, trucks and vintage sports cars, as well as British soldiers and American GI's head back to a time when rationing, air raid sirens and the menacing sound of the enemy aircraft were an every day event.We depart Pickering late afternoon.
